The Warband Builder Is Now a Battle Companion

What began as a roster builder now stays open beside the table: track HP, activations, statuses and XP as you play, then carry it all straight into the post-battle sequence.

The Warband Builder Is Now a Battle Companion

The Thrackdown Warband Builder has had one of its biggest updates yet.

What started as a tool for building a roster and handling the post-battle sequence has now expanded into a full Battle Companion, designed to stay open alongside your game and help track what is happening on the table.

That means less scribbling on scraps of paper, less trying to remember who has already activated, and much less re-entering information once the battle is over.

Track the battle as it happens

Starting a game from your warband now opens a live battle tracker, with a card for each fighter in your roster.

From here you can keep track of:

  • Remaining HP
  • Whether a fighter has activated this round
  • Bleeding, Burning, Poisoned and Entangled status effects
  • Consumables that have already been used
  • Enemy fighters Downed or Taken Out
  • XP earned during the battle

Weapons are also shown directly on each fighter card, with quick-reference stats and tap-for-rules functionality where you need a reminder.

XP can be recorded as the game progresses too, including Took Part, Downed, Out Cold'd, Mission and Standout rewards.

Fighter cards can now be collapsed down to a compact header and HP display when you do not need the full details, while marking a fighter as Activated turns the card's orange edge grey. Advance the round and those activation markers reset ready to go again.

The tracker remembers its state as you play, so everything remains together throughout the battle.

Your faction rules, right there

The Battle Companion also brings your faction's key rules into the game view.

Depending on the warband, that includes signature faction abilities, Momentum Surges and faction-specific mechanics such as Field Orders, Red Rites, the Mutation Table and more.

The idea is simple: the things you are most likely to need during a game should be easy to find without jumping between several different documents.

From battle straight into post-battle

Finishing a tracked game now feeds directly into the post-battle sequence.

XP, injuries, used consumables and other information recorded during the battle are carried forward automatically rather than having to be entered again.

There is also a new Record a Finished Game option if you played without the live tracker but still want the Battle Companion to handle the campaign bookkeeping afterwards, including the Underdog bonus where applicable.

The post-battle order has also been adjusted.

Warbands now collect their income before resolving injuries and medical treatment. This means you have a chance to bring some Thracks home before discovering exactly how expensive keeping your fighters alive is going to be.

Very considerate of the doctor.

Rules brought up to date

The Battle Companion has also been updated alongside the latest faction documents.

This includes current wording for rules such as Untested, Designate Killzone, Frenzy Aura, Sermon of Firecall, the Impact Table, Flesh Flux Mutation Rolls and others.

A number of smaller weapon and rules fixes have also gone live, including:

  • Slagstorm critical hits now correctly use Knockback (1")
  • Bleeding weapons include the correct Stabilise wording
  • Grapnel Hook has its missing Crit: prefix restored
  • Null Protocol now displays the current No More Masters faction rule

The public Builder still contains exactly the 24 Open Alpha launch fighters across the six factions, with unreleased material kept safely behind the shutters.

Some things on Nova Eden are still classified.

A cleaner experience on mobile and desktop

There has been a broader interface pass too.

Checkboxes have been replaced with custom plate-metal controls that are easier to use on mobile, long fighter names now wrap properly, stat rows adapt more cleanly to smaller screens, and several mobile overflow issues have been fixed.

The Leader tag has also shifted from rust red to lichen green, keeping it visually distinct from the red used for dead fighters.

Small changes individually, but together they make the Companion considerably easier to use in the middle of a game.

Build the warband. Then take it to battle.

The Warband Builder is still where you put your crew together.

It just does considerably more once the shooting starts.

Build your roster, launch the Battle Companion, track the fight as it unfolds and carry the results straight into your campaign without having to recreate everything afterwards.

As with the rest of Thrackdown, the Battle Companion is free to use during the Open Alpha.

Now all you need is a plan.

Preferably one that survives contact with the enemy.
