Ashen
Covenant
Fanatical believers, disciplined and utterly devoted, waiting for His return.
The world was broken by the faithless. It shall be cleansed in faith and fire.
The Ashen Covenant sees the Collapse not as an ending, but as a test. Every hardship, every wound, every martyrdom is a step along a divine path. When Regent Gideon Varr took the last vessel to find Earth, he left a promise behind him: I shall return. To most of Nova Eden it was a gesture of reassurance. To the Covenant, it was scripture.
What began as desperate hope has hardened into doctrine. Warbands march beneath relic banners, chant litanies in the ruins, and burn offerings to the absent Regent. The mutated are abominations. Machine intelligences are soulless husks. The unfaithful are ash waiting to burn.
Keys are the Covenant's sacred symbol. The faithful believe the Regent holds the key to humanity's return to Earth, and so they collect them wherever found, hanging them from armour, belts, and weapon grips. Many warriors carry dozens, their armour chiming softly with every step like a procession of small iron prayers.
"He watches from the void. We wait in the fire."
Faith is a weapon. Doctrine is its edge.
Covenant fighters grow more dangerous when tested, turning battlefield strain into zeal. Their leaders shape the warband before a single die is rolled, and their martyrs strike even as they fall.
Ashen Covenant fighters gain +1 to FHT rolls if they themselves have any Nerve Tokens. Their fervour grows when tested, driving them to strike harder.
When a Covenant model is reduced to 0 HP, spend 2 Momentum to allow that model to immediately make one free Shoot or Fight action before resolving its Injury Roll, even if it has already activated this turn.
The Articles of Flame
Before battle, swear one vow · tap to readThe first rank of the faithful
A Flame Chapter marches in ranks of devotion, from the Prophet at its head to the faithful holding the line. Four units stand revealed. The rest of the Chapter is still taking its vows:
Prophet of the Regent
Charismatic battlefield preacher who commands fire and faith in equal measure. His sermons ignite the faithful and shake the resolve of unbelievers.
Firebrand: force a visible enemy within 10" to take a Nerve Test.
Cinderguard
The burning line of the Covenant, wielding their weapons as instruments of devotion. Every shot is a prayer answered by steel and flame.
Disciplined Volley: +1 ACC against a target the faithful have already fired upon. Prayers, answered in sequence.
Knight-Militant
The Covenant’s righteous blade, tested through fire and faith. They hold the line with shield and maul while the faithful rally behind them.
Paired in Faith: fights harder beside their sworn Squire Bearer. The Squire has not yet arrived. The Knight waits.
Flame Deacon
Sacred pyromancers who scour heretics with cleansing flame. To stand against them is to face the living judgment of holy fire.
Aura of Immolation: enemies within 3" count as Exposed.
The First Kindling
The first fire of a new Chapter. The Prophet’s voice drives the line forward, Cinderguard answer in disciplined volleys, two Knight-Militants break whatever falters, and the Flame Deacon walks the gap where nobody wants to stand.

Turn strain into zeal
Covenant warbands excel when pushing the battle toward close engagement. Apply Nerve pressure early, then commit your Knights and melee specialists once the enemy line begins to falter.
Strong melee fighters, powerful morale pressure, strong leader synergy, and flexible doctrine through the Articles of Flame.
Limited long-range threat, reliance on key leaders, and some situational or fragile units.
Use expendable followers and positioning to force enemy mistakes. Pressure first, judgment second.
Pilgrims of battle
Every model should feel like a pilgrim of war, carrying both weapon and belief into the wasteland. Combine medieval and feudal elements with post-Collapse technology: robes over armour, scripture plates, censers, and relics. Keys hang from belts, weapon hilts, and armour as charms of faith.
Covenant fighters are rarely uniform. Battered armour, mismatched equipment, and handmade religious markings reinforce a faith that has endured through ruin. Aim for a sense of grim devotion.
There are no official miniatures yet, and the Covenant has never needed permission to make pilgrims. Raid fantasy zealot and knight kits: robed, hooded bodies for the faithful, and armoured crusader-style figures with mauls and shields for the Knights among them. The look to chase is a holy procession that survived the end of the world, armour scavenged and consecrated, every plate carrying something sacred.
Then bury them in devotion. Keys are the sacred symbol and one is never enough: hang them on cord at the belt, ring them along a maul's haft, nail one to a shoulder plate, until the model would audibly chime. Add strips of scripture and wax seals wherever there's room; if you want to push the devotion further, a candle or two won't go amiss. Finish with the fire they preach: dry-brushed ash on robe hems, soot around every censer, and scorched blackening on weapon heads.
"The world was broken by the faithless. It shall be cleansed in faith and fire. And when the ash settles, He will walk among us again."
