Fantasy Football Team Name Generator
Generate fantasy football team names for humans, orcs, dwarfs, elves, halflings, goblins, ratfolk, vampires, undead teams and more. Choose a team type and style, then generate names suited to your next tabletop league, tournament or campaign.
How to Use the Team Name Generator
Pick a team type, choose a style and hit generate. Six names appear per roll, each labelled with its team type and style. Copy any name straight to your clipboard, or use Share to send the exact roll to your league.
Set the team type to Random to draw from every archetype at once, and leave the style on Mixed to let each archetype lean into its natural character: orcs come out brutal more often, halflings come out funny.
You can also link straight to a preset. Add ?type=orc&style=funny to the page address to open the generator with those options already selected, ready to roll. Handy for league packs, bookmarks and pointing a friend at exactly the right settings.
How the Generator Works
This is not a simple prefix and suffix mash-up. Every roll builds dozens of candidate names from weighted naming structures, tagged vocabulary and procedurally combined home towns, then scores them for rhythm, theme and style before keeping the best six.
Weak combinations are filtered out along the way: repeated roots, awkward compounds and names too close to ones you generated recently. The six you see are chosen for structural variety too, so a roll mixes home-town names, classic club names, compounds and wildcards rather than six versions of the same pattern.
Fantasy Football Naming Structures
Most memorable fantasy sports team names follow a handful of reliable structures:
Choosing a Team Type
Each team type has its own naming logic rather than a swapped word list. Pick the one that matches the miniatures on your pitch:
- Human: traditional clubs built on towns, trades and heraldry, like Ashford Armourers or Stonebridge United
- Orc: physical and crude, all teeth, fists and iron, like Ironjaw Bruisers or Da Crooked Boyz
- Dwarf: sturdy, industrial and stubborn, like Copperpeak Grudgebearers or The Unbroken Anvils
- Halfling: village sports clubs and food humour, like Bramblewick Pie-Eaters or Merrymeadow Athletic
- Goblin: cheating, scrap and explosions, like Boomtown Bombers or The Shifty Sprockets
- Undead: graveyard gothic, like Mournhollow Wraiths or Coldrest Athletic
- High Elf: radiant and noble, like Silverspire Order or The Radiant Swans
- Dark Elf: cruel elegance, like Venomfell Vipers or Nightreach Reavers
- Wood Elf: fey and fleet, like Briarglade Wardancers or The Wild Hunt
- Ratfolk: swarming and sneaky, like Squeakwarren Swarmers or The Mangy Cheesethieves
- Lizardfolk: primal temple ball, like Jadepool Sunspears or Suntemple Raptors
- Vampire: aristocrats of the night game, like Crimsonkeep Counts or Bloodmark Barons
Serious Names vs Funny Names
The style control weights the whole pipeline, not just the words. Classic favours traditional sports club structures, Serious and Noble lean on formal vocabulary, Brutal reaches for violence and intimidation, while Funny and Punny bring out the jokes. Dark and Mystical suit undead and anything with a grudge.
Styles interact with team types rather than overriding them: a Funny dwarf name still sounds dwarfish, and a Serious goblin name is still recognisably up to something. Not every style suits every archetype equally, and that is deliberate.
Using Names for Leagues, Tournaments and Campaigns
A good team name does a lot of work at the table: it goes on the roster sheet, the league standings, the match report and the trophy. For a tabletop league, generate a shortlist and let each coach pick, or use Random to hand every coach a different archetype.
The names work for any tabletop fantasy sports game, blood-soaked or otherwise, and double nicely as warband, guild or club names in other games. If you need a force for a skirmish game instead, try the Warband Name Generator.

Yes. Norse, ogre, amazon, chaos-themed and more team types are planned. The generator is built so new archetypes are data rather than new machinery, so expect the list to keep growing.
A portion of orc names get orcish spelling, like Da Krushas or Smashin' Boyz. It is applied sparingly on purpose, so it stays flavour rather than a gimmick.
